Cure For PID

Postby tikus72 on Wed Mar 17, 2010 2:08 pm

Hi all,

Recently I was diagnosed with PID(Prolapsed Intervertebral Disc) at L4 & L5 after a MRI scan. I went for conservertive treatment like physio, swimming, taking pain killers. I also went for pain management, where I was given epidural steriod injection. This pain relief only lasted me couple of day.

After which the doctor refered me to a ortho consultant for surigical options. What I need to know is, what kind of surgery would be performed on me if I ever really need to go for. Also is surgery the only cure? Is there any other options avaliable for me?

If I ever need to go for an surgery, would you guys be able to provide me with the link where I can self read & understand more about the procedures which will be performed.

Thanks Much

Common surgical procedures;

1. Percutaneous Discectomy
2. Discectomy
3. Endoscopic Microdiscectomy

Here is a reply from an Orthopaedic Surgeon:

Prolapsed intervetebral disc if it is contained, nucleoplasty will decompress the disc and allow shrinkage of the prolapsed portion.

If the disc is too big or sequested, microdisectomy by removing the prolapsed portion under microscope will be needed.
