Dr Alex Ooi is a senior Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with over 30 years of specialty medical experience, currently practising at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre.
Dr Ooi obtained his medical education at the University of Singapore and graduated in 1975. After a broad based grounding in the various fields of medicine and surgery, he trained in Singapore and London and became a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Dr Ooi practiced at the Kandang Kerbau Hospital until commencing his own private practice at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre in 1982. He has been continually active in academic activity and helped establish laser, harmonic and minimal invasive surgery facilities at Mount Elizabeth and Mount Alvernia Hospitals.
Prior to introduction of his liposuction service, he trained in several places including with Dr Jeffrey Klein, inventor of the tumescent technique for liposuction. He also studied the variety of machines available, choosing to use a simple, safe device.
He has served on the Mount Elizabeth Hospital Medical Advisory Board and was Chairman on the Minimal Access [“keyhole”] Surgery group which revamped the dedicated operating theatres and initiated educational activities in this fascinating field of surgery. He has been visiting consultant to Fudan University in Shanghai and several hospitals in the region and continues to present papers at Congresses.
In addition to this special interest, he is a general Obstetrician & Gynecologist, providing cancer, infertility, osteoporosis and age management. A range of diagnostic services is provided in the clinic itself or nearby, as a convenience.
Since early 2005, he established Tumescent Liposuction and Autologous Fat Transfer services as a natural extension of his expertise in keyhole surgery. After a national review of regulations in this field, he was appointed liposuction preceptor by the Ministry of Health. Weight management and a limited range of complementary proven cosmetic services are also offered at his clinic.
